Not word by word: the page is translated as a page, and the translation can be read aloud immediately.
Offline or online, you choose
On-device translation keeps the text on your phone. Online translation is available when you want the extra quality — and it is never switched on behind your back.

Which formats does it open?
PDF, EPUB, FB2, TXT, Markdown, HTML and CBZ comics, plus Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RTF, ODT and CSV. Spreadsheets are shown as a real table, presentations slide by slide.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. Reading, text-to-speech, text recognition and every PDF tool run on your phone. The only thing that can leave the device is the text you explicitly choose to translate online — and that mode has to be switched on by hand.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no registration, no login and no cloud. Install it and open a file.
Can it read a scanned book?
Yes. Pages without a text layer are recognised on the device, and the recognised text can then be searched and read aloud.
Does it keep reading with the screen off?
Yes. Playback continues in the background with controls in the notification shade, on the lock screen and on headset buttons, plus a sleep timer.
Is it free?
Yes. Reading, listening, scanning, recognising text and all the PDF tools are free and supported by ads. Premium removes the ads and lifts the daily translation limit.
