What makes it different
Documents that speak
Most translation apps stop at subtitles. AnyDub also opens a 600-page textbook, understands its layout, and reads it to you in your language while you walk.
Any document becomes an audiobook.
Six formats
PDF, EPUB, FB2, DOCX, TXT and HTML — opened from your own files, no conversion step.
Karaoke highlighting
The spoken word lights up exactly as you hear it — timed to the audio, not guessed from length.
Bilingual mode
Original and translation together, highlighted in both at once. Learn a language with the book you actually want to read.
Understands layout
Columns, headings and callout boxes are read in the right order. Page numbers, running heads and copyright lines are skipped.
Scanned books
Built-in OCR reads text straight from the image — including Cyrillic, which most on-device engines cannot do at all.
Tap-to-learn
Tap a word for its translation with the sentence it came from. Save to your vocabulary, export to Anki or CSV.
Background & lock screen
Keeps reading with the screen off, controlled from the notification shade. Sleep timer finishes the paragraph, then stops.
Anything that plays, translated.
Any player
Movies, series, anime, lectures, live streams — if it plays on your phone, AnyDub can translate it.
Speech stays on device
Whisper AI recognises ~99 languages locally. Audio is never uploaded or stored.
Voice or subtitles
Natural voice-over in your language, or subtitles only — whichever suits what you are watching.
Live conversation
Microphone mode translates the person in front of you, in real time.
Three steps to a talking book.
Open your file
Pick a PDF, EPUB or DOCX from your phone. AnyDub parses the page layout and pulls out the real text.
Choose a language
Set the language you want to hear. Translation runs page by page, so reading starts immediately.
Press play
Listen with the screen off, follow along with karaoke highlighting, or read bilingually to study.
Common questions.
Which documents can it open?
PDF, EPUB, FB2, DOCX, TXT and HTML. For PDFs it reads the text layer when there is one, and falls back to on-device OCR when the page is a scan.
Does it work with scanned books?
Yes. Pages without a usable text layer are recognised from the image, with contrast preprocessing for small print. Latin, Russian and Ukrainian are supported offline.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The file itself, the page images and the OCR result never leave your device. Only short text fragments are sent for translation over an encrypted connection, and they are not stored after processing.
Can it read while the screen is off?
Yes. Playback continues in the background with controls in the notification shade and on the lock screen, like a podcast app. There is also a sleep timer.
What is bilingual mode for?
It shows the original and the translation together and highlights your position in both as the voice reads. It is the fastest way to study a language using a book you already want to read.
Is it free?
Yes. Free live minutes and document pages refresh daily, with bonus missions for more. AnyDub Plus removes ads and raises the quotas.
Does AnyDub provide books or videos?
No. AnyDub is a reading and translation tool for files you already have. It does not host, supply or link to any content.
How is this different from the Chrome extension?
The Chrome extension dubs video inside your browser on desktop. The Android app adds live translation of anything playing on your phone plus the document reader, which the extension does not have.
Pair it with other tools.
