AnyDub for Android — Privacy Policy
This policy covers the AnyDub Android application published by Pascual Labs on Google Play. Our browser extensions are covered by a separate policy.
The short version. Your audio, your documents and your scanned pages never leave your phone. Speech recognition and text recognition run on the device itself. Only short fragments of text are sent out to be translated, and they are not stored afterwards. We do not sell data, and we do not build profiles.
1. What stays on your device
The following never leaves your phone and is never uploaded to our servers:
- Audio. Speech recognition runs locally on your device. Microphone input and captured system audio are processed in memory and discarded — they are never recorded, uploaded or stored.
- Your documents. When you open a PDF, EPUB, DOCX or any other file, the file itself stays on your device. We never upload it.
- Page images. Rendered pages and scans are held in memory only for as long as it takes to recognise them.
- Text recognition (OCR). Recognition of scanned pages and on-screen subtitles runs entirely offline, on the device.
- Your reading data. Reading position, bookmarks, your document library and your personal vocabulary are stored in the app's private storage on your phone.
2. What is sent out, and why
To translate, the app sends short fragments of text — a paragraph of a page, or a recognised phrase from speech — over an encrypted HTTPS connection to the translation service you have selected.
About those fragments:
- They are used to produce the translation and are not retained after processing.
- They are not linked to your name, email or device identity.
- They are not used to train machine-learning models.
- They are never sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers.
Translation is performed by the provider selected in the app's settings (Microsoft Translator, Google Translate, or the AnyDub AI engine routed through our Cloudflare Worker). Each provider processes the text under its own terms; we send them only the fragment itself, with no information about who you are.
3. Your account
An account is optional. Most of the app works without one.
If you choose to sign in — by email code or with Google — we store your email address and your product balances (free minutes, document pages, subscription status). This lets your purchases and quotas follow you if you change phones. We do not use your email for marketing, and we do not read your Google account data beyond the address used to identify you.
4. Purchases
Payments are processed by Google Play. We never receive or store your card details. We record only the fact that a purchase or subscription is active, so the app can unlock the corresponding features.
5. Advertising
The free tier shows ads via Google AdMob, including optional rewarded videos you may watch to earn extra quota. AdMob may use an advertising identifier as described in Google's policy. Where required by law we ask for your consent first, and you can change that choice later in the app. AnyDub Plus removes ads entirely.
6. Permissions we ask for
- Microphone — only when you start live translation of speech around you. Recording stops when you stop the session.
- Screen capture — only when you start translating what is playing on your screen. The captured image is analysed on the device and never uploaded.
- Notifications — for playback controls while the reader runs in the background.
- Display over other apps — for the floating subtitle overlay, if you enable it.
- File access — only for the specific files you choose to open. The app does not browse your storage on its own.
7. What we do not do
- We do not collect your browsing history, contacts, location or messages.
- We do not upload, host or distribute any books, documents or videos. AnyDub is a tool for files you already have.
- We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
8. Children
AnyDub is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
9. Your rights
You can delete your local data at any time by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it. If you created an account, you can ask us to delete it and the data attached to it by writing to the address below; we action such requests within 30 days.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the app's release notes.
